Nuria De Diego Sanchez

Agronomical Engineer for Public University of Navarra 2004, MSc. in Biotechnology for the Basque Country University and Public University of Navarra 2008; Ph.D in Plant Physiology at the Basque Country University and Public University of Navarra 2012; with several research stays at international institutions from 2005 to 2015 (total of 13 months) total of including Palacky University Olomouc, Canadian Forest Service, Quebec, Canada, and CEBAS-CSIC, Murcia, Spain, among others.

Since 2013, Nuria De Diego Sanchez has worked at Palacky University Olomouc, Czech Republic, where, since 2024, she became the leader of the plant-environment interactions group within the Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute (CATRIN). She is also a member of the CATRIN scientific board since 2021 and has recently been invited to be a member of the Scientific board at the Institute of Agrobiotechnology (CSIC- Public University of Navarra), Mutilva, Spain.

Her scientific interest is focused on understanding plant resilience to abiotic and biotic stresses. She integrates plant metabolomics, genomics, and phenomics by developing new methods using high-throughput bioassays and plant phenotyping, which can accelerate the selection of interesting lines in crops and anti-stress compounds (WoS:@60, >1200, h-index 23). So far, she has supervised 5 Ph.D and 3 master’s thesis. She was also teaching “plant physiology” at the Official Master of Environmental Agrobiology, University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU) for 4 year (2009-2012), “basic concepts in Enology” at the Official Master of Enology, University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU) for two years (2012-2014).

Nuria De Diego became a co-investigator of the European project “Phytopathogens: a good Opportunity to Improve crop yieldS and quality under changing Environmental conditions (POISE)” from the call Europe (HORIZON-INFRA-2022-DEV-01) and recently, a co-principal investigator in the project “Potato crop effective management strategies to tackle future pest threats (PATAFEST)” from the call; HORIZON-CL6-2022-FARM2FORK.

In 2016, she became co-owner of a spin-off company AgroBioChem, s.r.o., together with Dr. Lukáš Spíchal, closely collaborating with Palacký University in research and development of new technologies and products for regulation of plant growth and development.
