Researchers’ Night at CATRIN reveals many secrets
CATRIN UP will again this year join one of the most important events for the popularization of science, the Researchers’ Night. Scientists will reveal the secrets of nanomaterials, cells in the human body, modern plant breeding, but also chocolate or bees and bumblebees to visitors in the CATRIN-RCPTM building on Friday, 6 October at 5 pm. In addition, the Science Centre has contributed to the photographic exhibition Journey into the heart of matter, which will be on display in UPoint.
“Our goal is not only to present our work in a fun and understandable way, but also to explain to the public how important science is to society and what problems we are helping to solve. We love having Researchers’ Night with us, it’s nice to see our center full of curious and science-inclined visitors,” said CATRIN Director Pavel Banáš. Visitors can take a traditional tour of selected laboratories of the center. Interesting experiments, competitions and quizzes, including a “search event” for the little ones, will be prepared. The program at CATRIN, including annotations, is available here Czech Institute of Research and Advanced Technologies UP | Night of Scientists (nocvedcu.cz).
CATRIN scientists have also prepared an exhibition Journey into the heart of matter, which may be seen in UPoint on Horní náměstí. Its aim is to showcase the dynamic developments in microscopy, thanks to which CATRIN scientists can go deeper and deeper into the interior of materials.
“The ancient quest to look inside the objects that surround us has resulted in a series of amazing discoveries in the field of microscopy, including the invention of electron microscopes. In the late 20th century, scanning probe microscopy and later electron microscopy were able to image atoms for the first time. Further advances in recent years have allowed us to look inside them, beyond the atomic level, and to see the bonds between individual atoms and the electronic structure of the materials under study,” invites Klára Čépe, co-author of the exhibition. The Researchers’ Night is also organized by other Palacký University departments, including the Fort Science. The program can be found at https://www.nocvedcu.cz/program.
