CATRIN takes part in the Three Universities Symposium

The second edition of the Three Universities Symposium, a professional meeting of Palacký University, University of Florida and University of Naples Federico II, took place last week at Fort Science with the participation of researchers and other CATRIN staff. Ivo Frébort was also a member of the organizing and scientific committee. The main purpose of the symposium, according to the organisers, was to deepen the strategic cooperation between the three universities in environmental and agricultural sciences.

The three-day professional event was organised by Palacký University in cooperation with the European network of research universities Aurora. Forty experts from Italy, the United States and the Czech Republic attended the event. The agenda covered issues such as regulation in new breeding technologies, molecular farming, pathogenic and invasive organisms, societal impacts of global change, but participants also discussed developments in artificial intelligence in agriculture and environmental sciences.

“I am pleased that CATRIN played a significant role at the symposium and that we had the opportunity to meet colleagues from the Aurora network with whom we already collaborate in the research and development of new technologies for making plant growth more efficient,” said CATRIN-CRH head Lukáš Spíchal.

The presentation entitled The AI-PlantLab: Cutting-Edge Tool for Plant Growth Monitoring and Phenotypic Trait Prediction was given by Nuria De Diego Sánchez. Ivo Frébort presented the situation regarding the regulation of new breeding methods in the European Union and chaired two program sessions. CATRIN scientists also had a significant presence in the poster session and the Head of Grant Office, Andrea Nogova, outlined the possibilities for grant collaboration between the EU and the USA.

The first Tri-University Symposium took place last April near Tampa Bay, Florida, USA, and the third meeting shall take place in the future at the University of Naples, Italy.
