Are you a comics and science fan? Join the competition!

The Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute of Palacký University has announced a competition for the best scientific comics on the occasion of this year’s Researchers´ Night. Bearing the motto of this year’s popularization event – CHANGE, in mind, elementary school pupils and high school students can turn into authors and create comic stories of their own heroes. The deadline for the competition is October 7.

The aim is to present, through comics, an interesting scientific topic that is also related to research at CATRIN. The science centre is dedicated to cutting-edge research in nanotechnology, biotechnology and biomedicine, details can be obtained at https://www.catrin.com/.

“In the form of comic strips, we bring science to life regularly in our newsletters. In them, we present the comic adventures of Herman the robot and his friend Begonia, written by our colleague Patrick Trouillas. These comics will also be on display during the Researchers´ Night,” invites CATRIN director Pavel Banáš.

Those interested in submitting a maximum of two pages of comics can do so in person at CATRIN during the Researchers´ Night on September 27 from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm (Šlechtitelů 27). The contestants can also gain inspiration during the Researchers´ Night, and send their creations by e-mail to romana.kotulkova@upol.cz, subject: Comics. Deadline is on Monday, October 7, and the results will be announced in two categories ( elementary school pupils and high school students).

Both the theme and factual correctness, as well as the artistic representation and imaginativeness will be evaluated. There is no set topic or the technique of illustration.  The best comics will be published on the CATRIN website and social media, and the winners will receive a small gift in addition to a tour of CATRIN and a meeting with the scientists.
